The lock system requires first to calculate the necessary blocks, which are established on the basis of weight and lean body mass of the individual and according to physical activity. A block consists of the three macronutrients in 40/30/30 or a block contains 9 grams of carbohydrates, 7 grams protein, 3 grams of fat. To facilitate the composition of a meal, a block can be divided into 3 tbsp.: a block is formed from 1 carbohydrate, 1 mini-terminal block mini-terminal block of protein and a mini-terminal block fat.

• For example, a meal from 3 blocks may consist of:
• 90 gr. chicken breast (4 tbsp. proteins)
• 380 g of green beans, 1 Apple (2 tbsp. carbohydrates)
• 1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil (3 tbsp.)

The Zone diet promotes weight loss without loss of lean body mass, because once the organism has entered "the zone" the body burns fat reserves to get energy without affecting muscle mass.
